The meeting between Erdogan and al-Hakim lasted around one hour and was closed to the press corps.
Al-Hakim later attended a dinner hosted in his honor by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
Speaking to reporters prior to the dinner, Davutoglu said that there were deep historical ties between Turkey and Iraq.
"Our history, destiny and future are common," Davutoglu stressed.
Al-Hakim will hold a press conference in Ankara on Monday afternoon.
